More people today are choosing non-religious or semi-religious funerals because of the greater flexibility they offer. Celebrant-led services focus on the values, beliefs, and wishes of the deceased and their family—not the officiant. Whether you prefer a completely secular service or one that includes hymns and prayers, I will work with you to craft a ceremony that feels just right for your loved one—and for you.
How It Works
Once you contact me, we’ll arrange a time to meet—either in person or remotely—to discuss your thoughts, preferences, and any contributions family or friends may wish to make, such as readings or music. These conversations help me create a fitting, heartfelt tribute that celebrates the life of the person you’ve lost.
There are no rigid rules—your wishes will guide every part of the service. After the ceremony, I’ll provide a full printed copy of the service in a bound folder for you to keep and cherish.
Memorial Services
Memorial services—often held after a direct cremation or private funeral—are becoming a meaningful choice for many families. Without the presence of a coffin, these ceremonies can be centred around personal touches like a loved one’s ashes, a photograph, or cherished mementos. They can also be paired with the scattering of ashes in a special place.
These services offer the flexibility to be held at a time that suits you, including weekends, allowing for more guests and thoughtful planning. There’s no rush—you can take your time to choose the right venue, tone, and content for the ceremony.
Memorials can happen anywhere that feels meaningful: a garden, home, park, pub, community space, or even somewhere significant to the person’s life—like a golf club or favourite retreat. I’m happy to suggest ideas and help with arrangements, including the option to live-stream the event for those unable to attend in person.
Unlike traditional funerals, memorials have no strict time limit. This makes room for music, readings, tributes, quiet reflection, and symbolic acts like memory trees or message-writing. Working together, we’ll create a personal and heartfelt ceremony that truly honours your loved one’s life and legacy.
